Little over a month is left until we will meet again in Riga, and thus we are continuing to introduce the presenters of Zabbix Conference 2017.
This year we have put together a very diverse agenda, and with only 21 days left to register, we encourage you to get acquainted with our speakers to find out about their scheduled presentations and decide on why you really should join Zabbix Conference this year.
In this post we would like to present a Senior Manager of IT at NHK International, James Green – a large supporter of open source technologies with over 20 years of experience in the IT field currently overseeing large IT operations in North America and Europe.
Pre-conference Interview with James Green
Tell us about you and your company, how did you get started, and what choices led you to where you are now?
I am currently the senior manager over the entire IT department with NHK International. I have obtained this role through my endless drive and never-ending desire to improve.
When I first started with NHK International, the system was 2 servers, 2 IT members, 1 location, 1 team, and about 30 users. Now there are 200+ servers, 10 IT members, 7 locations, 3 teams (Infrastructure, Development, and Support), and about 800 users.
What are your biggest challenges, and could you give us some interesting statistics regarding your work?
The biggest challenges I have are how to innovate faster and respond quicker. Using Zabbix will allow us to respond quicker to issues/alerts. It also frees up time to spend innovating new solutions.
In the ever changing IT environment companies rely on IT more, however, the resources given to IT do not grow at the same rate.
How did you choose Zabbix to be your monitoring solution, and what about Zabbix impresses you the most?
We looked into other solutions and decided on Zabbix. The biggest factors that swayed towards Zabbix was the screens, ease of configuration, and ability to customize.
One of the things that impressed me the most about Zabbix is the ability to visualize the data/information. The maps and screens are a nice feature.
What is your history with Zabbix Conference, and could you tell us your motivation for becoming one of the speakers for this year’s event?
This will be the first Zabbix conference that I have attended. I wanted to speak at the conference to help promote Zabbix and spark innovation within others.
As companies keep moving in a more global direction monitoring is becoming a critical part of the IT infrastructure. Also, with IoT, monitoring can tie into those devices and help the company in many different ways.
What would be the key message of your presentation, and what do you want attendees to learn from your talk?
I want attendees to understand some benefits of Zabbix and how simple it is to implement it within the environment.
In your opinion, what are the main advantages and reasons for joining the upcoming Zabbix Conference 2017?
The main reason to join the conference is learning and networking. Having many Zabbix fans come together can help foster innovation.
What topics you look forward to discussing with Zabbix community, conference participants and Zabbix team?
I am looking forward to talking to people about monitoring non-IT devices. For example, using a Raspberry PI with Zabbix to monitor equipment and other non-standard things.
